Description
At the end of the 19th century, Britain experienced a huge puzzle craze. Despite their rarity, I managed to pick up a number of the puzzles famous during that period in flea markets. Based on a puzzle that reappeared later in America, this is one that we have successfully revived in its new form. Keeping in mind the idea of intersecting the 'flags' should help in tackling this one. I only hope you enjoy the final 'release' as much as I do. -NOB 1994.

Hanayama Brain Teaser Puzzle Level 1

Trout

This puzzle is every angler's dream, with trout jumping over one another as they leap out of a river or stream. It is the patient fisherman who solves this challenge, twisting the trout to separate them from one another. According to inventor Akio Yamamoto, this puzzle isn't completely solved until the trout are reunited!

Hanayama Brain Teaser Puzzle Level 1 - ABC

"As you can see, the letters A, B and C. The key word to keep in mind here is 'tracks'. In this puzzle you are trying to free the 'C' from 'AB' piece. Taking the wrong route will lead to a dead end, so to speak. Based on a puzzle that came out back in 1911 in England, this puzzle has a lot of history behind it. I recommend this one for beginners who want to get started with puzzles."

Hanayama Brain Teaser Puzzle Level 1 - Bike

"This puzzle, created and patented by John R. Lynn, gathered a lot of attention in America back in 1898. Using a gimmick/principle similar to those used in the ABC Cast Puzzle, this one has the same kind of labyrinth-like flow. Since we weren’t able to reference the original puzzle, the remake of this one took a considerable amount of time. We’re confident that we’ve created an accurate replica that’s just as enjoyable as the original. The key word is 'paths'."

Hanayama Brain Teaser Puzzle Level 1 - Diamond

This diamond consists of two pieces. Taking them apart is easy, but putting them back together takes some thought. This diamond may not be forever, but discovering its secrets will certainly keep a puzzler busy! By American designer Scott Elliott.

Hanayama Brain Teaser Puzzle Level 1 - Flag

Hanayama Brain Teaser Puzzle Level 1 - Hook

The two entangled pieces are exactly the same in shape and very simple. They look like hooks used to hang things. The pieces can be separated and connected, in a fascinating and magical series of movements. This cast puzzle, which is simple yet mysterious and just like a disentanglement puzzle, was created by Finland’s Vesa Timonen. The theme of this puzzle is “hook."

Hanayama Brain Teaser Puzzle Level 1 - Key

"Two keys linked together in such a way as to seem permanently joined. No matter how you look at it, there seems to be no possible way to separate them…or so everyone thinks. The keys are by all means separable. This is just one of the famous puzzles that has enjoyed popularity ever since its creation during the 19th century British puzzle craze. The key word is 'engage.'"

-Nob Yoshigahara, 1983

Hanayama Brain Teaser Puzzle Level 1 - Loop

This puzzle is created by the young Finnish puzzle designer Vesa Timonen. Timonen has come up with an endearing Cast Puzzle based on an original Puzz-Ring he created for his girlfriend. One of the appeals of this puzzle is that it can double up as an accessory when the two parts have been perfectly fitted together. Finished with a simple yet unique design. The key word is “Synthesis."

Hanayama Brain Teaser Puzzle Level 1 - Hook

Inventor Akio Yamamoto wrote, “In the summer of 1997, I saw two mackerels that had somehow managed to get into the sardine tank at the aquarium. Watching the two fish unable to blend in with the shoal of sardines made me wonder if they were on a journey of self-discovery. What sort of adventures will they have? Imagining this led to the conception of six cast puzzles based on oceanographic subjects.”
